Lyrics - There Is A Hope

There is a hope that burns within my heart

That gives me strength for every passing day

A glimpse of glory now revealed in meagre part

Yet drives all doubt away

I stand in Christ with sins forgiven

And Christ in me the hope of heaven

My highest calling and my deepest joy

To make His will my home

There is a hope that lifts my weary head

A consolation strong against despair

That when the world has plunged me in its deepest pit

I find the Savior there

Through present sufferings future's fear

He whispers courage in my ear

For I am safe in everlasting arms

And they will lead me home

There is a hope that stands the test of time

That lifts my eyes beyond the beckoning grave

To see the matchless beauty of a day divine

When I behold His face

When sufferings cease and sorrows die

And every longing satisfied

Then joy unspeakable will flood my soul

For I am truly home

When sufferings cease and sorrows die

And every longing satisfied

Then joy unspeakable will flood my soul

For I am truly home

Bible Memory Verse

(Hebrews 10:23, ESV)

‘Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.’

Story Behind the Song

This hymn was written by Stuart Townend and Mark Edwards in 2007. They wanted to write a song about Christian hope. There are many things we say ‘we hope’ might happen without knowing for sure if they will. Christian hope is different because it is certain.

Wherever we go in this life He will always be with us. When we come to the end of this life He will take us home. All the Lord has promised will be done. Remembering this as we walk into every day  makes our faith in Christ strong and full of life.

One thing that’s very interesting about the melody is that each line is different. Yet like the pieces of a puzzle they fit together to make a very beautiful and memorable melody.

Something to Think About

A couple of years ago we were in the UK and my daughter Eliza and I took a day trip to Oxford, England. We wanted to see the colleges, the cobbled streets, the famous pathway CS Lewis used to walk when he lived there. The problem was I wore the wrong shoes! They were too high and pinched my toes. Soon I couldn’t walk very well and then couldn’t walk altogether. My shoes weren’t strong enough to get me to the end of our long day.

Even when we are young we get tired. We get discouraged. We get disappointed. We need a strength bigger than our own. We look for a rest that cannot be taken away. The Bible says that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. We can be certain His Word is always true and He will always keep His promises. Hope in Christ is sure and strong enough to carry us through every day. Hope in Christ gives us the right shoes for our soul! The only shoes that will not wear out for the only path that will bring us home.

So as you sing remember this hope. Put it on like sturdy shoes every morning! Let it help you see the clear path ahead and strengthen you to run the race to the end.

Prayer

Father in heaven,

Thank you for the certain hope we have in Christ. May it strengthen me especially in times of struggle. May I walk in it and share its truth with others. Help me to fix my eyes on you and my heavenly home,

In Jesus name,

Amen
