About Keith & Kristyn Getty

Keith and Kristyn Getty are GRAMMY-nominated artists, hymnwriters, and the founders of Getty Music, a family of global music companies stewarding their vision for music and hymnody.

Christianity Today describes the Gettys as “preeminent” hymnwriters who have “changed the way evangelicals worship.” Their hymn “In Christ Alone,” was a genre-defining work that has received accolades including being named the second- and third-most popular hymn of all time in surveys conducted by BBC Songs of Praise over the past two decades. Their whole catalog, which uniquely crosses contemporary, traditional, and global music genres, includes more than 50 of the top 500 songs sung in U.S. and U.K. churches, and is estimated to be sung by over 100 million people each year in a wide variety of worship settings. They are the recipients of numerous awards and honors, including Keith being awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE).

Originally from Northern Ireland and now based between Nashville and the North Coast of Ireland, the Gettys’ work has taken them from leading worship in their local church to sold-out concerts in venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Grand Ole Opry House, the Ryman Auditorium, London’s Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and arenas on three continents. As global ambassadors for hymns, they have performed for presidents and prime ministers around the world and been the focus of television specials on PBS, CBS, BBC, and TBN. Along they way they have earned a GRAMMY nomination, a #1 mainstream Billboard album, multiple GMA Dove Awards, three honorary doctorates, honorary fellowship of the Royal School of Church Music, and civic honors from the Freedom of Lisburn and Castlereagh to the OBE.

The Getty Music organization includes a publishing company, record label, touring company, foundation, and the Sing! Organization. Their annual Sing! Conference gathers around 10,000 pastors, leaders, artists, and musicians from around the world to deepen their understanding and practice of biblical worship, and reaches tens of thousands more through global streams available in 11 languages. In partnership with Crossway, they spearheaded The Sing! Hymnal, which curates classic and modern hymns to serve individuals, families, and churches for generations.

At the heart of their work is home and church. They write with an ear for what congregations can sing on Sundays and families can sing around the dinner table, often including their four daughters in their music and performances.

About Keith Getty

As co-founder of Getty Music, a family of global music companies, with his wife and artistic partner Kristyn Getty, Keith leads a creative team that crafts songs, albums, and other resources designed for congregational singing that blends Celtic, classical, and global influences with biblically rich lyrics. He is best known for co-writing “In Christ Alone” with Stuart Townend, a hymn ranked among the top five of all time by the British Hymn Society and consistently listed near the top of CCLI charts in both the U.S. and U.K.

Keith’s contributions to church music have been widely recognized. In 2018 he was appointed an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for services to music and hymn writing, the first contemporary Christian songwriter to receive this honor. The Gettys’ 2021 album Confessio - Irish American Roots earned the pair their first GRAMMY nomination, and together they have received multiple GMA Dove Awards, three honorary doctorates, honorary fellowship in the Royal School of Church Music, and the Freedom of the City of Lisburn and Castlereagh, Keith’s hometown where it all began.

Beyond composing, Keith is a sought-after speaker on worship, theology, and the importance of congregational singing, serving churches and leaders through the Sing! Conference, The Sing! Hymnal, and the Getty Music Foundation.

A native of Northern Ireland, Keith was a provincial award-winning musician on flute, guitar, and piano before focusing on composing, conducting, and producing. He broke into the music industry as an arranger and founded his first organization, New Irish Arts, during his final year of high school before writing his first hymns during his twenties and thereafter devoting himself to the music of the global church. He and Kristyn live between Nashville and Northern Ireland with their four daughters.

About “In Christ Alone”

“In Christ Alone,” written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, is beloved for its beautiful melody and lyrical depth exploring the power of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection to sustain believers. Originating from a melody Getty sketched on the back of an unpaid electric bill, “In Christ Alone” has become one of the most popular hymns of all time and the “model modern hymn” according to Christianity Today.

Four years after its 2001 release, a BBC Songs of Praise survey named “In Christ Alone” the ninth best-loved hymn of all time in the U.K. In 2013, the same survey named it the second most popular hymn of all time. It has remained among CCLI’s top 100 songs for over 15 years, ranking in the top 30 every year since at least 2016.

“In Christ Alone” appears in 44 hymnals and is sung by an estimated 100 million people in churches around the world each year. It has been covered extensively by Christian and mainstream artists including Adrienne Camp, Alison Krauss, Anthem Lights, Michael W. Smith, Natalie Grant, Shane & Shane, Owl City and dozens more.
