Getty's to pen anniversary hymn for Wheaton College
25/02/2010

Irish modern hymn writers and 2010 Dove Award nominees Keith & Kristyn Getty are composing a hymn in honor of the 150th anniversary of Wheaton College.

The creation of the as-yet-untitled hymn was recently announced while the Gettys were on campus to lead worship for a gala event held in celebration of the sesquicentennial anniversary.  The composition will premiere May 7 during Wheaton’s Festival of Faith.

“For generations, God’s people have marked occasions like this with a song,” said Dr. Tony Payne, director of the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music.  “That Keith and Kristyn Getty have agreed to create a new hymn in honor of the 150th anniversary of Wheaton College is a great honor.”

“Kristyn and I are honored to be composing a hymn in commemoration of Wheaton College’s 150th Anniversary,” said Keith Getty.  “We have deep respect for Wheaton’s theological tradition, and are so grateful for the countless Christian leaders and missionaries they have helped to raise up.  Sharing so many core values, we are thrilled to partner with them in this way as we seek to find fresh, creative avenues to bring unchanging Truth to each new generation.”

Founded in 1860, Wheaton College (Wheaton, Ill.) is a coeducational Christian liberal arts college noted for its rigorous academics, integration of faith and learning, and consistent ranking among the top liberal arts colleges in the country.  Its website iswww.wheaton.edu
